The 2009 Pinot Noir Reserve is a selection of the best barrels in the cellar and was aged for 10 months in 33% new French oak. It offers up an enticing nose of anise, cinnamon, clove, floral notes, and assorted red fruits. In the glass it reveals a forward personality, sweet fruit, a supple texture, and good balance. October 2010 - 2008 Timothy Pinot Noir by Robert Parker's "The Wine Advocate" 87 Points The 2008 Pinot Noir Timothy is a blend of 4 vineyards aged for 10 months in 20% new oak. It gives up a pleasing perfume of cedar, clove, cinnamon, rose petal, and cherry. This is followed by a forward, fruity, easygoing wine with plenty of concentration, good volume, and a moderately lengthy finish. Drink this very good value over the next 4 years. - Jay Miller October 2010 - 2008 Reserve Pinot Noir by Robert Parker's "The Wine Advocate" 90 Points The 2008 Pinot Noir Reserve is a blend of 2 vineyards aged for 10 months in 33% new oak. It delivers a similar aromatic and flavor profile but with greater richness, succulence, and complexity. It is likely to evolve for 2-3 years and will offer prime drinking from 2012 to 2020. - Jay Miller
2008 Wildaire Cellars Timothy Pinot Noir ($20) Fall Issue of 2010 "Willamette Valley Life" by Ryan Reichert Bright cherry red with violet tinges and a nose dominated by red fruit including cherry, raspberry and strawberry. Soft on the palate with hints of similar fruit and muted tannin make this wine very approachable. Willamette Valley Life • Fall 2010 Approachable. Pairs nicely with rich mushroom gravy creating a balance of fruit and earth.
May 2010 - 2008 Timothy PN by Jackie Ross of The Wine Club of Santa Clara "The WildAire 2008 Timothy Pinot Noir, is hands down the best value we have found to come out of the Willamette Valley. It is incredibly balanced and structured with loads of complexity. It lures you in with it’s beautiful bouquet of florals, red licorice, and wild black berry layered upon hints of exotic spice, and toasty oak. A silky mouthfeel entices you at the front of the palate with flavors of rainier cherry, caramel, and vanilla that seduce you completely with it’s structured, elegant, and beautifully balanced mid palate that rounds out to a pleasant and lengthy finish. Only 380 cases made. Do not miss out!!!" May 2010 - Portland Indie Wine Festival WildAire Cellars was yet again chosen by a panel of wine industry judges to be a part of the 2010 Portland Indie Wine FestivaL that promotes Oregon wineries that produce less than 2500 cases per year. We are thrilled to be one of only 40 wineries selected out of 181 wines submitted to the Judging panel. Our 2008 Reserve Pinot Noir, 2008 Timothy Pinot Noir, and 2008 Tempranillo were selected for this event that's now held in the Bison Building in Northeast Portland. April 2010 - 2008 Timothy PN by Doug Davidson of K & L Wine Merchants "Named in honor of Matt Driscoll’s father, this wine is a blend of fruit from the Momtazi, Clay Court, Illahe, and Lia’s Vineyards, aged for 10 months in 20% new French oak. The resulting wine shows great aromatics of raspberry and dusky cinnamon spice. On the palate there’s lots of soft, tasty red berry fruit backed up by great balance and structure, ending with a touch of grip and lingering spice. This is a wine that shows that you don’t need to spend a fortune to find a delicious and complex pinot noir from Oregon!" April 2010 - Oregon Wine Press "Brad Ford, Matt Driscoll and Michael Lundeen know how to play nice. The three winemakers share their toys, they don’t hit or cry, and they help each other. As a result, three wineries that might never have been, are thriving." Gail Oberst of the Oregon Wine Press wrote this nice article about us in the April issue. Her focus was how 3 wineries in one place can all help each other to succeed. Check it out here: WildAire Article February 2010 - The Portland Wine and Seafood Festival Out of 128 wines that entered the competition at the portland seafood and wine festival the judges selected just 5 gold medals....our 2008 Timothy Pinot Noir won GOLD! May 2009 - David Gray from the Portland Wine Examiner
Matthew and Jean Driscoll also self distribute their wines from the Dallas, Oregon location (at Illahe Vineyards). But with only 600 cases manufactured, it's not as daunting a chore as it surely will become as people discover this talented duo and convince them to craft more. Matt presented three wines, including his 2006 Eastburn Vineyard Pinot Noir. This food-friendly release was smooth, full of vanilla and toast, and had a bacon fat note that begged to be paired with a bacon-wrapped cut of salmon or scallops with a bit of white sauce. His pricing even on the reserve hit under $35, and the dark chocolate and unending finish of the reserve blend was certainly worth the price.
